SOLON and Onyx Renewables Complete Four Additional Solar Projects for City of Mesa, Expanding Directly Interconnected Municipal Solar to 3.7 MW

February 26, 2026

Mesa, AZ — February 26, 2026 — SOLON Corporation, a leading solar energy solutions provider, and Onyx Renewables (“Onyx”), a national provider of localized energy solutions, announced the completion of four additional solar photovoltaic (PV) projects for the City of Mesa in December 2025. These projects are directly interconnected with the City of Mesa Electric Utility and bring the total solar capacity delivered by SOLON and Onyx for the City to approximately 3.7 megawatts (MW).

SOLON delivered full engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services for all projects while Onyx financed the systems and will serve as the long-term owner and operator, together delivering high-quality systems designed for long-term performance and reliability.

SOLON and Onyx previously partnered to complete four municipal solar projects in 2022 totaling 806 kWdc for the City of Mesa. The newly completed four projects add approximately 2.9 MW, significantly expanding Mesa’s portfolio of locally generated renewable energy and allowing the City to fully utilize the solar power within its municipal electric system.

These distributed energy projects directly enable the City of Mesa to enhance grid reliability, improve operational efficiency, and maximize the financial benefits of locally produced clean energy. This approach supports long-term energy cost stability while reinforcing the City’s commitment to sustainability and responsible infrastructure investment.

“Direct interconnection to the City of Mesa Electric Utility allows these solar projects to deliver immediate and long-term value to the community,” said Brian Seibel, President at SOLON Corporation. “With a combined 3.7 MW now in operation, Mesa is strengthening its energy resilience, reducing emissions, and keeping energy dollars local.”

The direct utility interconnection provides several key benefits, including:

  • Stable energy costs and long-term price predictability through onsite renewable generation
  • Improved grid resilience and reliability with distributed local power
  • Lower greenhouse gas emissions, supporting Mesa’s sustainability goals
  • Greater control over energy resources through city-owned infrastructure

“Onyx is proud to partner with SOLON to provide more affordable, predictable energy to the City of Mesa through the development of these localized energy solutions,” said Patty Rollin, Chief Commercial Officer at Onyx Renewables. “These systems were customized to meet the City of Mesa’s unique goals and will help them reduce energy expenses while strengthening the reliability and resilience of their local grid.”

The four new systems combined will produce an estimated 130 million kWh of clean, renewable energy over the next 25 years and the environmental benefits* that Mesa receives are substantial:

  • Equal to removing 4,739 gas passenger vehicles from the road for one year
  • Equal to 17,750 homes avoiding electricity use for one year
  • Equal to planting and growing 1,408,390 tree seedlings for 10 years

The successful completion of these projects reflects the ongoing partnership between SOLON, Onyx, and the City of Mesa and demonstrates how municipal utilities can leverage distributed energy resources to hedge against price volatility while meeting both economic and environmental objectives.
