Project Developer

Onyx Renewable Partners L.P. (“Onyx”), a Blackstone portfolio company, provides flexible, creative solutions for the development, financing, construction, and operation of commercial & industrial distributed generation and utility-scale solar power generation sites as well as wind power projects in North America.  

Onyx Renewable Partners L.P. is seeking one or more talented individuals to join our Business and Project Development team. The positions are for our New York City office; candidates outside of the New York City area may also be considered.

The Project Development positions at Onyx serve the mission-critical and dynamic role of advancing projects to commercial operation. The Project Development team members are responsible for planning and development of projects, which include collaborating with internal teams, managing customer/offtaker relationships, obtaining required permits, and coordinating all financial, technical and commercial requirements to advance the project to construction and ultimately, commercial operation.

Primary Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Oversee and assume accountability for project planning, management and coordination

  • Coordinate with internal construction, procurement and engineering teams to manage solar project development, construction and financing

  • Assist in diligence and feasibility of new projects

  • Engage and cultivate relationships with external stakeholders, offtakers, landowners, utilities and regulatory authorities

  • Ensure all commercial conditions are in place to satisfy standard requirements, including obtaining of necessary studies, surveys, permits, easements and encroachments from the relevant utilities (and/or offtakers), landowners, or governing authorities, while working alongside the Onyx Legal, EPC and Finance teams

  • Transition projects from development phase into construction phase and then post-financial close

  • Oversee handoff of projects from Construction team to Asset Management team in conjunction with project energization process

  • Evaluate process improvement of internal project development

Minimum Qualifications

  • 1 to 3 years of experience in renewable energy project development; exceptional and highly motivated candidates with less than 1 year direct experience but experience in construction, renewable energy, project finance, etc. may be considered

  • Professional and thorough approach to project development, with a deep understanding of technical, financial and commercial aspects

  • Demonstrable experience in progressing renewable energy projects from conception to completion

  • B.S. or B.A. degree or equivalent (preferably in Engineering, Construction Management or related fields)

  • Self-starter with strong organizational, written and communication skills; ability to manage multiple projects and workstreams

  • Team-player mentality; ability to work with different teams in the organization to ensure sound management of project development opportunities from inception to completion

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability

  • Working knowledge of relevant software

  • Physical Requirements for Position: Walking, Sitting, Standing, Hearing, Effective Verbal Communication, Vision, Inside environmental conditions, sedentary work

  • Ability to travel to sites and meetings, as needed.

Preferred Additional Qualifications

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
