Solar Asset Management Analyst

Job Summary

Onyx is seeking a Solar Asset Management Analyst to join our growing and dynamic Asset Management team. The Solar Asset Management Analyst will be responsible for the remote monitoring and administrative support of operations, including creating/maintaining documentation for routine reporting, for a fleet of DG operating solar assets in order to drive optimal asset performance and efficient operations and maintenance. This position will be responsible for validating the onboarding of projects into the monitoring platform and supporting ongoing QA/QC and reporting of asset performance data. The Solar Asset Management Analyst will assist with operations management through identifying and tracking performance affecting events, maintaining service records, and producing maintenance logs for reporting. This position provides an excellent opportunity for an entry-level renewable energy professional to learn and perform a significant role in operating and optimizing solar assets, while also working in an environment that necessitates interdepartmental teamwork and exposure to senior management.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Remotely monitor distributed generation PV solar assets daily to promptly identify and track plant outages/events, underperforming equipment, data quality issues, and performance trends.

  • Support regular and ad-hoc asset performance and maintenance reporting for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Evaluate project performance and data quality to make recommendations for corrective action or asset improvements as needed.

  • Support the management of O&M subcontractors, including the review and documentation of reactive and preventative maintenance, tracking of performance affecting events, and reporting of maintenance logs.

  • Maintain project information in the asset management platform, including site access procedures, service history, spare parts inventory, warranty claims, and preventive maintenance schedule.

  • Assist with configuring and troubleshooting monitoring platforms and data communications to them.

  • Collaborate with internal engineering and construction teams, and external monitoring system contractors, to onboard systems into asset management, and continue to work with the same teams to maintain a high level of asset data quality throughout operations.

  • Report trends and lessons learned on actual generation performance alignment with predicted assumptions to continuously improve results.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical or quantitative discipline, such as Engineering, Environmental Science, Physics, Math, or similar.

  • 0-2 years of work experience. Demonstrated interest in renewable energy through solar or wind industry work experience or related coursework strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience in managing and reporting of large datasets with a high level of attention to detail, as well as a strong ability to analyze and synthesize the data.

  • Working knowledge of solar performance monitoring programs highly desirable. Experience with Power Factors Drive and AlsoEnergy Powertrack is preferred.

  • Working knowledge of electrical systems, data acquisition/SCADA systems, and network/remote communications preferred.

  • Knowledge of and experience with industry standard performance metrics is preferred.

  • Working knowledge of solar energy production estimate models and related industry standard programs like PVSyst.

  • Strong command of Microsoft applications, including an advanced knowledge of Excel and database applications. Knowledge of API connections, Python, SQL, or similar a plus.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and an honest open communication style.

  • Detail-oriented self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to work well in a dynamic work environment.
